What kind of insect is it?
Question:I live in Southern Alabama and have noticed and insect that is red(maybe orange) and blacked striped and shaped like a bee. I dont see it fly very much. It stays low to the ground. Anyone know what this might be? I haven't had much luck in a web search.

in arkansas we call them cow ants. they have a horrible bite
hello neighbor we are in Gulf Shores/Foley area. sounds as though you are describing a soldier bug. if so, it is a beneficial insect, kills the little pesties that damage plants.
Need more description on it to be sure. some one else answered saying "cow ant" if that is what your bug is, watch out. they sting and hurts like the dickens. just a wingless wasp. just leave it alone and it will leave you alone.
