Why do people hang bags of water up to keep away flies and how does?

Question:it work? I always wondered that.

Answers:
The sunlight reflecting through the bag of water will cause the flies to become disoriented, because of their multifaceted eyes. It gives them double-vision a hundred times over.

it doesn't work, and neither do those sticky things people put all over their house.
never heard of it ..
im not sure how it works - but it does - ive seen it work
idk
yes it works, my best friends does it, but I think it looks so silly. Southern States sells a dispenser that spays out a mist every 10 minutes or so, which works the BEST!!
Errr. I have no idea why people would do this. In fact, I never knew they did.
Actually the bags of water thing does work with common houseflies. Its been tested and proven to work.
Evidently, houseflies, being highly edible and defenseless, are nervous types, and don't like to sit still when they see something moving nearby, because it could be a predator. The water bag acts a bit like a lens--try it some time--in which the movements of people in the area are reflected. Even if the fly is too far from the action to see it directly, it can see a shifting of light and dark in the water bag, which it interprets as nearby movement, and it will fly away from the bag. The reason it doesn't work on any other insects is that the other insects listed don't have eyesight worth a plugged nickel.
someone told me to put a penny in the bag of water also- not sure why- but like they said about the water giving them a sense of disorientation.
