Get a cat or two! We lived in a forested area that had lots of ground squirrels when we moved in. They could be found crawling everywhere on the outside of our house.

We got two kittens and they soon deterred all squirrel activity in our yard. We were there for 7 years and they never came back although I'm certain they were still living in the forest around our house.
get a cat, and feed it only a little, they will take care of ground squirrels or chipmonks, I sat at my kitchen table and watched my neighbors once stray cat play with a chipmonk for over 30 minutes. they feed it too much!
Get rid of them, they are tree rats. They bury their food and forget where they buried it. Don't feed them. You can trap them, use peanut butter as bait, but you may have laws like here that say you canot relocate them to a nearby park, besides they will probably come back. Oddly enough you can trap them here but can't relocate them, but you can kill them. They will mess up your lawn and can devistate your garden and you have the right to protect your property.
