How to keep cool when working outdoors in the summer heat?
Question:I deliver mail for the US post office. All day in the heat. I see many other people working at outdoor jobs. What can we do keep comfortable in this heat and humidity? When I return to my mail truck I place a cold wet cloth on my face and I can't tell you how good that feels-----then I return to the streets.

I have a mister that is filled with ice water. It is the kind you pump and it sprays a cool mist. I attach that to the front of my small fan that is plugged into my cigarette adapter..it blows an ice cold mist all over and feels GREAT!
I found a neck band that you wet & put in the freezer or in cold water. I think I got it at a drug store. It works pretty good. Also they have small battery operated fans that attaches to a hat. We used those at my sons baseball games. Be careful and don't get to hot, it's dangerous. Hope this helps.
Not many choices when u have to work in all kinds of weather.
I do hope ur uniforms r light weight and made of cotton. Our mailman wears regulation shorts and short sleeve shirts, also a wide brimmed hat to keep the sun from beating down on his head and face. Keep a large thermos of ice water in ur truck, drink freely to keep hydrated, thats about all u can do.
Hope u perspire a lot, that`s natures way of keeping ur body temp. down.
Drink plenty of fluids.
If any customer has a lawn sprinkler, walk thru it.
Park the LLV in the shade whenever possible.
Wait until mid-September.
I'd go with the ice cold neckband and get yourself a couple. One to wear and one to keep in a small cooler with coolies in it. Switch them out when necessary.
It works for my hotflashes. :)))
