Dream house.?
Question:We are in the process of designing a house to build. We have ideas of what we want, but would love more ideas. What would you want in your house if you were building? We have two children ages 4 and 13 and live in a small mid-western town.
Answers:
- bathrooms and closets in all of your rooms
- pool
- big basement (movie theater?)
- two floor cielings in entryway and family room
- large staircase
- home office
- back stairway
- three car garage
- laundry room upstairs
that is if you have unlimited funds...
My situation is totally different than yours - retired, building a 3 BR ranch that I'm having the builder convert to a split BR floorplan with a Master BR on the R side with its own screened porch & another on the L side that's split into an office/den in the front, a walk-through closet from it into the BR which has its own screened porch out to the backyard. An open floorplan w/ any doors 36" wide & ramps, not stairs at all entrances, levered handles throughout, a low lipped shower & grab bars in each BA.
My sister is to be joining me when she retires & we intend to live in the house until we can't anymore, so that's why all the details about making it as accessible as possible.
The builder we're working with is great & offers many different floorplans on-line that you can go in & work w/ yourself to get some ideas. They operate in 5 states I think, although I don't know if they're in yours. Check it out if you want at www.schumacherhomes.com
