Found a bug similar to a spider/scorpion?
Question:I found a bug today that I have never seen before. It was crawling on one of the plastic interchangeable pieces which connects to the end of the hose connected to a wet/dry vac that was sitting on my covered wood porch. It was light brown in color, about 1 3/4 inches long from head to end. Had a body similar to a spider and the leg joints the same as a spider, but only 6 legs, instead of 8. It also had an extention on it's end which resembled the tail of a scorpion, curved upwards. It crawled around on the piece long enough for me to carry it around and ask friends what it might be, until someone shook it off the plastic piece and smashed it dead. We are building a home on same property...lots of new fill dirt and sand and digging, etc.. has occured. I've lived here 12 years and never seen anything like it. Any ideas? I thought it was some combination of a small spider/scorpion/bug.

Sounds weird. What part of the country are you in? You should try the What's That Bug? site: http://www.whatsthatbug.com/ . It has an extensive collection of bug photos. I had never seen house centipedes until moving into my present run-down apartment and finding it infested, but I identified the centipedes right away on this site.

Those potato bugs are ugly. They look like slimy ants. Did you see the picture of the pseudoscorpion?
Oh, nope. They're only like 2 millimeters long.
Hello,
I am a biologist, I can ssure you it is not of the same family as spiders or scorpions from the fact that it has six legs and not eight. Arachnids is the family which includes those two, it is caracterised by the fact that all it's members have eight legs, so your's is an insect, which is grossely defined as a bug with six legs. Ex: flies and ants. If you can find another one, I suggest you take it alive to an exterminator, they have encyclopedias and insect samples to compare it to, so they can identify whatever you bring them. From your description, I don't know what it can be, because to identify a bug you need more details like were some ofit's body parts merged, colr, skin texture, antenas, what kind of mouth it has, and lots of other features that you need to identify an insect. You have to know that this the largest family of the animal kingdom, so you need a maximum of details to identify a specific member of it. I wish I could tell you what it is, but the only thing you can do is try to catch another one and take it to an exterminator. Hope this tip can help you, I garantie you unless someone knows exactly of what you re talking, it is impossible to identify without a live specimen. By the way, you should specify where you live, that might help if someone from around your area sees your question and knows what bug it is or if He or She can get you a live specimen to take to the exterminator. Good luck, I hope this helps you...
