How do I re-pot a Prayer plant?
Question:I have a Prayer plant that needs repotting. I have repotted Prayer plants in the past but the soil seems to be too heavy to allow enough air to the roots, and they die or don't thrive. Any answers or suggestions?

I have had the same prayer plant for many years. In the late winter and early spring it gets little white flowers. Generally about this time there will be new growth coming from the center of the plant. I cut of all the old growth at this time. Sometimes the leaves look pretty healthy that I cut off so one time I decided to try to root them in water. Wa la it worked! I did not have sucess with every leaf but have propagated a few plants this way. Mine has been in the same pot for a while with just regular potting soil. I usually take a fork and stir up the top soil (about an inch down) to prevent the soil from compacting. I do this with all my plants before watering them. Maybe try adding some vermiculite to the soil when you transplant that should make the soil a little lighter. Also may be try watering a little less. It is okay to let the soil dry a little in between waterings. Good-Luck!
