How do I prune back my lavender and when should I do it?

Question:I have the most commonest lavender in my garden. I want to know when and how I should prune it back?

Answers:
I do mine after the flowers have died off. Whatever you do, don't prune back to the old (last years) wood or it won't grow again. Make sure you leave some of this years new growth (lighter coloured) and the new shoots will come from this.

After flowering. Cut most, but not all, of this years growth.
I just cut off the dead wood on them around May mine have began to bloom again
i trim after flowering and then i cut to the shape and height that i want
Dont bother pruning it just let it grow.
I knew an old gardener once, he used to thrash the lavender with his walking stick when it was getting out of control...
