Ants in the attic!?

Question:So we're cleaning out the attic in our garage and way in the back there are a few rolls of upholstery foam. My dad went to move it and found an undulating, black, moving mass. They're literally everywhere near the back of the attic.

We can't figure out why they'd nest up there. There's no real food source for them. I don't know if ants eat wood like termites do, but the only wood around to eat are the rafters that make the floor of the attic.

Anyways, how the hell do we get rid of the bastards? Any suggestions (other than torching it to the ground?)

Oh, and we're not calling an exterminator. We're sorta cheap like that.

Answers:
Try epsom salt, they bring it into their home and it supposedly kills the queen and everyone else.

You can also try poison traps, they are little disks filled with a powdered poison that you could probably buy at the hardware store.

put some grits up there the workers will bring some to the queen and she will eat it and die..when the queen dies the others will depart ...end of colony
