It would be a very bad idea. It would be constant struggle to avoid water spots, lime deposits, and rust. Furthermore, you would quickly get abrasion on the surface from the cleansers it would require to get rid of the aforementioned problems.

IanJ is smoking crack. There is a company called Maax (or Maxx?) that makes a really cool looking frosted glass tub that rests in a wrought iron cradle. Super cool. You can order it through Home Depot. Last time I priced it it was $1,200. With inflation and more people going to designer baths, maybe $2k by now.
