Got a fairly significant flea issue in the backyard of a house I just moved into. How do I best deal with this
Question:Is this something that I should get done professionally or does anyone have a recommendation as to an effective product or method I could use?
Again, the problem is not inside - just outside.

If you can find it Diazinon is a great bug killer. Spray the whole yard and along the side of the house. It works great. If yiu can't find it, Malathion is an acceptable substitute.

Is the soil sandy? Don't know if this will work but detergent kills just about anything eventually - mix it with water of course. There are specific pesticides especially for fleas - not just any old pesticide- if you're that way inclined.
You can get a spray that attaches to your hose and you spray the whole lawn with it. They have it for all sorts of insects and pests. I use a bug spray for black flies and it works great. Someone at a home store can lead you to the perfect product for fleas.
You can also use rubbing alcohol full strength. Tide powder or 20 Mule Team detergent will also work, but it might turn your grass brown. But if you mix it in a spray bottle or one of those ones that hook up to the garden hose might work better for that bad and big or an area.
Trust me...the fleas may only be in the yard now, but they attach themselves to any human or pet, and as soon as you or the pet enter the house, the fleas are there too.
Seven products are good for treating fleas, but before you treat the yard, make sure you mow and rake all the organic material out of the yard. Then using Seven concentrate, mix in a 20 gallon sprayer (according to directions) and spray your entire yard. It may take several applications to completely rid the yard of fleas.
You can use Seven dust on your carpets, around the baseboards and under sinks and in cabinets.
It's best to treat the inside and outside at the same time to prevent the fleas from just relocating.
Liisten to me! Use tobacco dust or Lime. Don't listen to these other idiots.
