Why would one side of runner beans be failing while he other side are flourishing?

Question:One side are doing really well but the other side are stunted and not really growing at all. they are in the cross formation rather than the wigwam. Any suggestions? They are in open ground, not against a wall.

Answers:
Might be more sun and less water on one side, or might be different soil. If you planted them last month when it was really hot perhaps one side got a bit dry. They should catch up, they've plenty of time. Try putting some mulch around the roots to keep them cool and damp - grass cuttings or compost would be fine.

Try watering with the can in your OTHER hand occasionally... not certain to help, but worth a try.

Good luck.
Could be sun is not shining on the other side. Sun contains UV light which has frequency of certain threshold that gives energy for growth and photosynthesis.
Spray them more with warm water.
Maybe the fertlizer isn't get distributed really good.
One side of your beans are getting more sunlight. You could try replanting them.
if possible plant the row of runner beans north to south insuring an equal amount of sunshine on both sides of the row each day. if this it possible a good idea is to plant the beans that will be at the back of the row earlier so the grow some before the front row
