Need to know why does the concrete starting to crack after one week.?
Question:I had an contractor pour my concrete on the back yard, and not even a week crack already showing up. his explanation is the weather been to windy and hot causing it to crack. but I don't believe it. can anyone help?
Answers:
well without seeing it, would have to say, the base on which the concrete was poured is still unstable, was not tamped very well..
I hope you didn’t pay the contractor for his bad job. The concrete didn’t have enough water in it for the hot weather. If the weather is too hot and dry, the concrete has to be kept damp during the drying process. Covered with a wet fabric, or lightly hosed down during the curing process will keep it from cracking. It takes about two weeks for the concrete to fully cure. The base may not have been level as well.
After concrete is poured, it needs to cure before it is permanantly set in position. While it cures, it needs to stay wet or else it will crack. If weather was hot and dry, you need to wet the concrete every day with a hose in order to avoid cracks.
If the contractor didn't do this and if he didn't tell you that it had to be done, I would consider him liable for the problems. If the concrete is cured correctly, it can last for decades without cracking.
I agree with your other answers and the concrete mix might of been too strong,...to much cement in mix.
