Is our tree infested with bugs? How do we help our tree?
Question:We moved into our house about a year ago. The previous owners had planted a tree in the front yard about 2 years ago.
We have watered it and taken good care of it. About 3 weeks ago all the of sudden the leaves turned brown.
I went out yesterday and looked down at the base of the tree and the bark looks like it has some spots torn away. I pulled a little piece out and a little black bug with wings came out.
I have no idea what to do? We live in Texas and have no idea what type of tree it is.
Any ideas from anyone?
Thanks
Answers:
Take a sample of the tree to a good lawn and garden center. Tell them what the bugs look like..and if you have a digital camera take a picture of the tree and bring that with you also.
go to home depot or lowes and in the gardening section you can ask the person who works there what would be the best thing for your tree. they have tons of stuff that can help you
I live in southern Missouri. We had the same thing happen to an old oak tree in our back yard. The leaves on the tree last summer suddenly turned brown and fell in august.
This year only one side of the tree has leaves. We had the bug problem too.
First many bugs live under the bark of trees. That's why woodpeckers are always pecking.
It turned out our tree took a lightning hit on the side where the dead leaves are. It all has to be cut off or the rest of the tree will die.
Well if the tree was not being watered or treated b4 u guys moved there ,maybe u shld leave it alone .
