Will deer be kept out of flowerbeds by lighting? An unusual thing happened to me with minilight strand----?
Question:For a time I had a strand of solar-powered minilights hung in backyard and during that time not a single deer came into the yard to eat plants (as they often did before). The lights are gone now and I'm wondering if I should replace them or was this just a coincidence. Does anyone know if lights make it less likely that deer will come into a yard? Mine were solar powered, so no electricity cost to me, and only came on at night.
Answers:
I was at Home Depot enquiring about the same thing a few weeks ago and I have a solar light that works.

Set of three different coloured flowers that will glow in the evening. The deer do not like (or trust) the red, green and blue evening lighting.
(lights remain White during the day and change colour at night)
Good luck.
Wheats.
no they will still come. I am a deer hunter and you hunt during the day. so why would that help?
Yes, deer prance around during the day, but they explore more freely at night because it is dark, and they do tend to shy away from well-lit places at night. We had great luck in our garden putting up disposable tin pie plates all over the place. They made noise when the wind blew and when animals stepped on/near them.
It probably was a coincidence. Human urine will often keep them away, but I doubt you would want to go that far.
with urban deer, the lights make little difference. They most likely found a better flower bed to eat from. Deer are nomadic and roam as they eat, so they chould also have changed their paths for where they eat at.
I have deer around my house from time to time. I may see them 2-3 days in a row, then not see them for 2-3 weeks.
They'll get used to it eventually. May have been a temporary fix.
They make pellets that you stab into the ground at the roots of plants and shrubs. These pellets "feed" the plants and make them taste and smell nasty to deer. I forget what they're called, though - sorry.
