Why do these moths keep coming out of my pantry!?
Question:
Answers:
They are the Common India Moth. The presence of these little pests has nothing to do with your housekeeping skills or the lack thereof.
They are very common in grains, oats, some pastas, and other raw foods made from seed and grain. Long before the product gets to your pantry adult moths lay eggs in the seed or grain. The eggs are microscopic, ie; you can't see them.
The grain or seed goes through the preparation and packaging at a factory and, unless it's cooked the eggs survive. You buy the product, take it home, use some and put the rest away. Shortly thereafter the eggs hatch and you have moths in your pantry.
They won't make you sick or harm you but are ugly, especially when you have guests, someone opens a cupboard door and out flies six bugs. Ewww.
Go through your pantry, throw out all grain or seed products that have been in there awhile. Check the ones that are unopened, if there is web looking stuff on the inside it's infested. Dump it.
When you get new stuff, empty the product into glass jars with tight lids or resealable plastic containers.
DO NOT spray the pantry with bug killer, it stinks and you may become ill, and the spray may contaminate your food.
Oh, don't forget to label the jars or plastic containers.
Idk, never had the problem...but maybe you can put moth balls in there?
I think they were attracted to rice. Do you have any in your pantry?
empty pantry -spray bug killer -close door firmly for two hours.Wash thoroughly afterwards.Caulk around all joint seams.Air out before replacing contents.good luck
Which type of Moth ? Without more info: a guess would be, cool ,dark places are attractive to some moth species, some also are attracted to grain or cereal foodstuff. Clear out pantry, wash EVERYTHING down, throw out anything old, keep foodstuffs boxed or wrapped.
You should store flour in an airtight container in your freezer. That is a big cause of moths in the pantry. The larvae that the moths came from live in any grain type material. That means rice, oatmeal, flours, and some cereals. Looks like it's time to do some spring cleaning! You should put all this stuff in airtight containers, and don't buy more than you really need.
Probably 'Pantry Moths" there is a pherome trap for them
You likely have what we call "miller moths". The larvae are in beans and dried seeds ( as well as some pastas) in the pantry, where they eat their way through the seed, turn into moths and repeat the process by laying eggs in flour and grain-related products. I place my beans and seeds in the freezer when I buy them, throw out anything more than 4 months old and , if you have flour products in canisters, I find dried Bay leaves are great at repelling the moths to prevent egg-laying. Don't use any chemical that you might injest!
Fancy do you have a bird cage ?
if you do keep it clean
