What kind of mild soap is good for cleaning a leather sofa?
Question:I use to use Ivory hand soap and warm water to clean my leater sofa, but now, Ivory discontinued their liquid soft hand soap. Any suggestions?
Answers:
step one, go to a leather store and ask questions.
step two, look at hand soaps to see what ones are the mildest to use on humans.
remember leather is an animals skin. know what works for your skin with the least amount of irritation and you got what you need for the leather sofa.
avoid solvents... you may have relaxed or streached leather. hitting it with solvents may make it contract or tighten up on the effected area.
leather protectors and re-moisturisers are important after cleanings
I have used a mixture of water and vinegar, 10x1 approximately. This help remove some odor as well.
Get some saddle soap.
Many household soaps now contain ingredients which actively damage the finish on leather so household cleaners should not be used.
We would not recommend anything that has not been tested on leather and proved to work as otherwise you will not know what damage is being done.
You should really try No Bull Leather Cleaner. Newer leather furniture does not react well to under the sink cleaners. A good leather cleaner and conditioner should be two different products that can not dry out or harm the finish in any way.. It just makes no sense to spend the extra money on leather furniture and then not be willing to spend $30 to $40 on a product designed to clean and protect it. Please pass this on.
Ivory liquid dishwashing soap -- Just dilute it a little.
