I got an underground pool but its only 5 feet deep. Can I get a slide or is the pool to shallow?
Question:I got an underground pool but its only 5 feet deep. Can I get a slide or is the pool to shallow? The slide companies say 5 feet is sufficient. Any thoughts?
Answers:
SHOULD BE AT LEAST 6 FT.
Check your local building code. The slide companies want to sell a slide, but you are the one responsible for any construction.
check with pool sales and builders but that does sound a bit shallow.
when I was a kid...
Yes 5 feet of water is plenty for a slide-people have slides on 4 foot above ground pools-just picture the end of the slide-its about a foot above the water-even a head first slide wont get you near the bottom-imagine rolling off the edge into the pool-how far would you sink-or being thrown in the pool-how far would you sink?Kids dive off the edges of pools a million times a day-yea you could get hurt but you could also drown in a pool...now its hot-get that slide in and have fun
You could have a slide on a 5 ft pool but not a diving board.
Here in the states the federally recognized definition for "shallow" water is less than 5' deep. According to federal regulations all diving and slide equipment must not be installed in "shallow" water.
So technically yes you can legally add a slide to a 5' deep pool. Double check your local regulations though as they may be a bit more restrictive. Also check your homeowners insurance as you can take a HUGE hit for adding a slide to your pool as you are responsible for any injuries incurred through the use of it.
