So it's mealy bugs. i need to get rid of em without chemicals?

Question:what insects can i get in British Columbia?
What happens to those insects after the mealy bugs are gone? do they go away? or do i have another problem insect?

Inside plant or outside? I've been told that you can get rid of mealy bugs on indoor plants by using a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol and rub it on the plant.
