How do I tell the difference between Silverplate and sterling silver?

Question:Rodgers Bros 1847 and Rodds silverware is what I purchased.

Answers:
Sterling silver always has a full set of hallmarks on it. Silver plate will have EPNS stamped on it. ( electro plated nickel silver )

Sounds like silverplate. Real silver has a stamp on the back of it identifying it.
