Replacement windows: vinyl, fiberglass, wood aluminum. What the best for an older house (50+ years)?

Question:My cape is in the northeast. Due to expenses, I may have to do a few at a time. What kind do you think will fare best in my climate. I have both double hung and french windows.

Answers:
If you are trying to go back with the original look then go with wooden but if you want something that is more modern and almost 100% maintenance fre go with vinyl it is cheaper but looks good and will last a long time. Whatever you choose to do make sure you get the measurements perfect and use new flashing so they wont leak in the future.
