Is there sealant I can use on a knife block to keep it from making my knives smell weird?

Question:I got the knives for free but the wooden block makes them smell strange (like the wood it's made out of). Is there any kind of sealant I can dip it in to keep the odors contained?

Clean the slots in the block. A mild bleach solution will disinfect it.
