What are these tadpole looking things in the water??
Question:We have a fountain about the size of a birdbath in our patio. The water has been still for a while, and recently, I noticed several tiny tadpole like things wiggling around throughout the water. What are these? They are tiny, but easy to see. Should I get rid of them?? I don't knnow what to do or what they are. Help!
Answers:
Mosquito larvae. you should dump the water and refresh it with new fresh water, or you will have your own little flock of mosquitoes in no time at all
mosquito larvae. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water; this is why you should (have) changed the water every week or so.
Just flush the water out of the fountain with some fresh water.
They are probably tadpoles
Yes, get rid of them, they are probably mosquitoe larvae.
they could be baby frogs of Mosquito larvaes if they are frogs there not harmful and it could be fun to watch them grow but next time you should clean the water out every couple of weeks
baby mosquitos!!!! kill em, kill em all quick
They could be an alien life form and destroying them may endanger another civilization, as they may be here because the water in your birdbath possesses a material that they need for their continued existance. Or, they could be just mosquito larve which could be gotten rid of by dumping out the water. Tadpoles, which they could be, will develop into frogs. You could wait to see what happens. Mosquitos fly about stinging and sucking the blood out of their victim, while frogs are harmless and will usually turn into a Prince if you kiss them. If they are indeed mosquito larve, you can buy an additive for the water to kill them or at least stun them silly.
yes you should get rid of them. It sounds like you have mosquito larva in the water. They look like tadpoles. They breed in still water and that is probably what has happened. That is one reason why when they talk about west Nile they tell people not to leave still water laying around because that is where mosquito's breed. Your best bet is if you are going to have a fountain around make sure it is constantly flowing that way they will not breed in the water. Another thing that may help is putting fish in your fountains they will eat the larvae. If they are mosquito larvae you may want to act fast they complete their life cycle in 7-10 days. Then you will have a yard full of these pests that cause many illnesses and deaths. Also if you go to the stores and garden places you can purchase a chemical to put into the water to help prevent this from happening. The site that I posted will give you ideas on how to prevent them. It will also give you a better idea of what they look like and all about them. Hope this helps you out.
Hi, please take them out, use a jar and fill it with water from the fountain and add the tadpoles to it. Take then to a nearby pond in the countryside if possible and release. If your neighbours have a pond they will take them , if not ring the RSPCA who will have a list of places you can take them. Of course ring them before you remove the tadpoles from the fountain. You have either Frogs spawn or Toad spawn lucky you and lucky frog a secure high rise nursery for its young. If you are outside Britain you will need a local pond that doesn't dry up in the summer season.
Oops! Mosquito larva. If your fountain runs continuously, this is much less likely to happen. I have used a small amount of bleach (start with 1/4 cup) to clear my fountain water when this happens.
