Cost of Electric in Home?

Question:Would it be cheaper to run the home A/C all day to keep the house cool this summer or would it be cheaper to purchase 3 single window A/C's to keep our home cool? Our electric supplier BGE just increased another 50% I'm trying to figure out the best way to stay cool while using electricity at the best cost. I know I can open a window or by a cheap fan but I want to rid my home of the hot air. Any ideas on how to cool my home or whether it would be cheaper to use a window A/C or central A/C?

Answers:
I would suggest fans throught the house. Cieling fans are great and some are pretty affordable. If you keep your thermostat on 78 and keep things circualted through the house. To save money look at otherthings too like the hot water heater. that runs all day when your not using it. You may want to flip that breaker and turn it on in the evening when you use it.

U must live in TX cuz the same thing happened 2 me, I am considering buying some solar panels.
when I lived in MS my summer electric bill, the highest was: $120 summer months.
I moved 2 TX it is: $400/summer months, NO JOKE!
I will come back & check ur answers & get some ideas, in the meantime I have my thermo @ 80, windows open & ceiling fans running.
According to my husband, in our area, the central air is run by the gas portion, not the electricity. Our gas is enormous, so I would say, window units and fans would use actual electricity and be much cheaper.
Brown study.
