I planted a Banana tree about 4 foot tall, i choped the top off, and all it is doing is growing pups,?

Question:the pups are growing but no new leaf growth

Answers:
If you cut it less than about 2 feet, it is new growth from the root {new plant} You can move them when they are about 2 feet tall. Wet the dirt so that it will cling to the roots and transplant. If it is growing directly from the center, it is the old plant. A rule of thumb is only trim in the spring, and leave it at least 2 feet tall. They will still spread, but not as much. It is easy to tell the dead part, it is smushy.

Give it time... what you call pups are in fact leaves that will unfurl as they grow. The banana plant grows by producing new leaves... as one leaf develops it will unfurl & you will see the next leaf as a shoot (pup as you call it.)
I believe you are asking about the 4 footer? No it will not grow more leaves. The trim job was too radical. That's why the pup's have formed.
