How can I get rid of white flies in my garden?
Question:A pesticide-free solution is preferred, especially since the pesticides I tried didn't work.
Answers:
You can purchase sticky traps that will attract white flies. These traps are usually yellow as white flies are drawn to that color specifically.
What I have done is make my own sticky trap. I bought yellow 'Solo' cups and smeared petroleum jelly on the inside and outside of them and kinda snuggled them into the plant branches. I only put a very thin coat, so as not to cover the plant leaves with the petroleum jelly.
There is also some merit in the 2 other answers. If you take onions, garlic, bay leaves...or any combination of all the strong smelling herbs (including tobacco) & spices you have in your cabinets, put a pintch of each in a pot, cover with water and bring to a boil and steep for a few mins...you can make an incredible organic herbicide. After the liquid has cooled, strain it and pour it in a spray bottle. Add 2-3 drops of dish detergent and fill the bottle.and spray away. Be sure to spray under the leaves as this is where most bugs hide.
Hope this helps.
Try chewing tobacco soaked in water, strain out the tobacco and put the liquid in a spray bottle. Spray your plants after rain or at least every 3-4 days. Nicotine is originally a pesticide, and should resolve the problem. However, once tobacco is outlawed, good luck finding another product.
Proven fact I sprayed my roses with water every am & pm last fall . they were so bad here in so cal. Local extension service said 1 qt h20 -1 T dish washing liquid- 1 t peroxide in a spray bottle. Worked in about a week , best thing in my opinion & experience is shower all out door vegetation every 2 or 3 days . I learned from my grandmother that grew all her own veggies on her roof in NY city!!NATURALLY!!
diluted washing up liquid in a spray bottle works ok
