What kind of bug is this?

Question:Its orange in color and it has 6 legs! 2 in the front of its face that are pointy , 2 on the side of its face, and 2 on the upper side of its body! It started growing wings right in front of us. My parents say its a butterfly but arent butterflys supposed to evolve in a cacoon? could it be some kind of moth or what?
