How much does it cost to add 1025 cubic yards of fill to a parcel before building on it? (Materials & labor.)?

Question:My parents are looking to build on a riverfront site. A previous owner of the site requested a permit and was told by the city that they would need to add 1025 cubic yards of fill to the site prior to building. How much is such a thing likely to cost? It seems like clean fill dirt can be had for free if you are willing to look for it, how much do hauling/compacting/any other expenses usually tend to run? (This is in the Sacramento, CA regional area.)

Answers:
You can get the fill for free from pool contractors in your area they always need a place to dump dirt. The soil engineering, compaction and grading will be your greatest expense. To achieve this estimate is impossible it greatly depends on may things access to the site, site location, native soil. I would have a soil engineer test the lot first to see if adding the soil is the only problem. It may have other issues and fill could turn into engineered fill..
1025cyds is going to take a while though.
Start calling now its pool season...
