Garage sale or Auction?
Question:If I want to sell my household goods, which includes furniture, tools, kitchenware, curtains, bedspreads and linens, and just about anything else, which might be the better option, garage sale or auction? Do you have experience with both or either?

While I basically agree with justme, I find it strange how much people will bid at auctions. I have seen used "junk" go for more than it sold for new. You will be paying a percentage to the auctioneer but in the end, everything will be gone.
It depends on how old and valuable your items are. If you have old antiques that are worth some serious money, then I would sell at an auction. if you just have modern furnishings have a yard sale and name your price, you can always take less money to get rid of it. Chances are if you have a yard sale "collectors" will be some of the first people there and will know what is of value and snatch it up fast. You could always ask a local auctioneer to come in and appraise everything first and decide from there which is better.
Garage sale! You keep all the profit and the only cost would be to print up a few signs and maybe run an add in the newspaper. Garage sales are good for negotiation too, I don't think you can do that at an auction. people just love to bargain hunt! My friend had a garage sale last summer and asked if I had anything I wanted to add. I had about a trunk full of stuff and I made almost $200.00! It was really fun!
