Electricity-moving to new house?

Question:In the UK, if a tenant moves out from a home will the electricity and gas be terminated or the connection still remains there?

What I know is that when a new person moves into the house
we have to tell our meter reading and an account will be opened in our name. Is it true?

Answers:
Yes, when you leave take the readings yourself (they don't always come to read them)

At one time the gas and electricity would have been turned off, but these days they don't tend to do that.

If possible get someone to check with you the readings so you have a witness.

Do the same as soon as you get to your new home.

If you are staying with the same supplier you tell them where you are moving from and where you are moving to and when. They will either take a reading from the old place or may accept a customer reading. They'll send you a final bill for the old place and a new account number for your new place. If you are dual fuel i.e. gas and electric with the same supplier, then make sure you make that clear as although I was getting electricity bills it took 9 months and me telling them to send me a gas bill.
Yes you are right, just phone up your Joice of supplier
with details plus both meter readings and if you
water is on a meter do the same with that.
PS can i come to house warming ?
