Very Mysterious Insect?

Question:I live in Central/Upstate New York and saw this really weird insect on my porch today, and was wondering what on earth it was.

It's about half an inch long, and looks like two completely different insects glued together exactly in the middle - an ant an a caterpillar to be precise.

From the head to the middle (quarter of an inch), it looks like a large, dark blue ant. From the middle to the end (quarter of an inch), it looks like a fuzzy, bright orange caterpillar with dark blue spikes (same color as the front half). It has a total of six legs, all of which are bright yellow with black tips.

It moves a little sluggishly, like it's dragging its back behind.

Any entomologists out there?

Answers:
I live in Oklahoma and we call them kissing beetles. Watch out!! If you have a bush or tree on your property they they like...they will over take the whole thing. They reproduce quickly. Maybe that is why the are glued together:)

It's the larval stage of something, not an adult form of an insect. Google "insect larvae" and see what you find for your region.
Sounds like some kind of wasp, or beetle . .I live in S. Central NY ( near Bingladesh ;D) . Haven't seen that exactly, but have seen something with abdomen as you describe . Maybe some type of Carrion Beetle . Does it smell like sh**? No joke ! Most common species of carrion beetle here smells exactly like horse manure .
