How to dismantle a above ground swimming pool?
Question:I need to dismantle a above ground swimming pool. I heard that if you drain out all of the water at once, the liner will rip. I'm not certain how to go about this.
Answers:
If the walls collapse, they could rip the liner.
Your best bet is to drain the water level down to about halfway, then undo the top rails and release the liner. If you have an in-wall skimmer, those connections have to be undone as well.
Then you can drain the rest of the water out of the pool and then take down the walls. Let the liner fold into the center if you don't want it to get damaged.
If someone else is going to reassemble the pool, I would recommend a new liner anyway. It's easier to set up the filter connections.
Yes, unless the liner is less than 2-3 years old, and you are going to set it up straight away, it's unlikely you will be able to reuse the liner. When you fold it up to transport it, it will get little holes/cracks on the unavoidable sharp edges of the folds. You could theoretically patch these when you re-instal, but it's a hassle, and you have no guarantees you've got them all.
Just make sure you have labelled bags to put all the separate bits in, and maybe even mark the adjoining pieces so it can be re-assembled the same way.
What my family did was, during a garage sale they put up a sign saying the pool was for sale (as we never would have hasseled to move it if we didn't want it gone) BUT the buyer had to dismantle. Sure we didn't get as much money as we could have but there was no work involved and some lucky family went came back a week later to get their cheap pool.
