How can I keep cats from fouling my garden ? Has anyone tried the sonic cat repellents ? do they work ?
Question:
Answers:
Ultrasonic repellents could cause severe distress in animals. Although, many people use it, but it is not recommended if you are animal lover.
There are some companies which manufacture custom built ultrasonic systems - which means very limited power and directional control of speaker output - for example it may work only in the garden area - just like laser intruder alarms - but these systems tend to be very very expensive. Check out the following links. But it takes long time to tune to the specific frequency which might repel the cats - could be very annoying !!
The other natural idea is to plant hedges with bitter leaves & smell, height should be around 2 feet minimum. Ask, your local nursery about it.

There are plants that repel cats. I have the same problem and I just found a type of cat repelling geranium at a local greenhouse.
This is from the link below -
Some plants give off smells that cats dislike. One such plant, Coleus canina, goes by the common name, "scaredy cat plant." As the second term in the Latin name indicates (think "canine"), it is also effective if you have trouble landscaping with dogs. Other plants often recommended for keeping cats away from yards are:
rue,
lavender, which deer pests also dislike
pennyroyal
Cats love bare soil so grow ground covering plants. I have mulched all my garden with slate chippings and grow plants up through it. Saves on weeding and watering too.
Here is a tip from my time in South Africa,
I noticed on most lawns whilst out there that the owners always had empty plastic bottles filled with water lying at strategic points.
When I asked why, I was told that the sun glinting on the bottles of water makes dogs and cats very nervous and they will not linger in the vicinity.
tries it on my lawn and it worked a treat.
Back here in the UK, the problem is finding enough sunlight to glint on the bottles, but if conditions are favourable it is worth trying, you will be surprised.
hope this helps
