Bees - someone out there already asked about a ton of bees around the pool and waterfall.?
Question:I have the same problem and have all my grandchildren over to swim all the time. I really don't want to trap or kill them, but rather is there some kind of repellent?
Answers:
Bees need a drink of water too! I know that's little consolation when the source is your pool.LOL If you have a whole lot of bees the culprit is probably a local beekeeper with a nearby hive. Talk to him/her about this and suggest he/she put out some water for them. If you can't find the source of the bees you can put an alternate water source out yourself. It's not a guaranteed solution because the bees might really like your pool. I wouldn't recommend a trap or poison because a good hive in the middle of summer can have 60,000 bees or more. Gonna trap them all? Bees like to mind their own business so even if they don't leave they shouldn't be a danger. The best set up for an alternate water source that I've found is one of those small pet watering contraptions where there is an upside down container that feeds water to a small dish below. Put a piece of swamp cooler pad in the dish part and you're good to go.
Sorry, no repellant that I'm aware. You will have to identify the type of bees.
If these bees truly seeking flowers, plant a large bed of what they are attracted at farthest part of your yard from the main people traffic. Give them a reason to be elsewhere.
If it is hornets, wasps or yellow jackets, you may need to forget your desire to 'save' them. Find where their nest is located, go out AFTER dark when they are 'in bed' and spray the nest good. After a couple of hours & no sign of life, remove all of nest & double bagged for your garbage can.
There is only one way to get rid of any type of bees. Smoke them out. They hate smoke like you would hate a turnado.
