Good,but pricey.
He's right. Go for the German stuff. You can even get some 'budget' stuff like Wusthof that will last forever if you care for it.

Don't go for the hype of the names, either. A good knife doesn't stay sharp forever. And never buy a knife that 'never needs shaarpening' .. what that REALLY means is 'this knife CANNOT be sharpened' . serrated knives tear the food, they don't cut it.

Best bang for the buck? Learn to use a steel and perhaps have the knives professionally sharpened once a year. The steel will keep them honed. I now rely on the $10 steak and $5 paring knives for everyday use. I get them at kitchen supply stores, sharpen once and then use the steel as needed. You can put a razor edge on a knife in 10-15 seconds.. send them out once a year.

I'll get 10-15 years out of a few decent knives.. but for $10, who cares? LOL

those are VERY good knives. however, if you really want to get your money's worth, buy german cutlery. i have used almost every major brand, from ginsu, to cutco, and the traditional german knives are by far the most superior.
