Which is better? Patio doors or french doors?

Question:We are replacing our old aluminium double glazed sliding patio door, but didn't know whether to choose french doors instead or just go for sliding patio doors again (both UPVC double glazing).

From the quotes we have, there isn't much difference in price, but I didn't know about advantages/ drawbacks of both. We have a lovely view of the garden and trees and didn't know if french doors would be too restrictive for the view.

Also, which would be more modern-looking (thinking of future resale value, etc)?

Answers:
french doors without a doubt, they add more style to a room and they can be manufactured to open inside or outwards which ever you prefer

make sure you get a handle on each door as some companies only have the main opening door with the handles and the slave door has 2 shoot bolts what locks at the top and bottom, the best type are the locking mechanism what is operated by the handles

if you choose to have the doors opening outwards make sure after they have been fitted that the installer tightens the allen screws on the external hinges as the hinge pins can be removed from the outside if this has not been carried out correctly

hope this helps

thanks

Patio doors
French Doors are better looking and not as easy to burglarize.
French doors without a doubt.
french doors are best; patio doors that slide always seem to become dated. the french doors are more modern and you get all sorts of designs. buy a few home magazines like homes and gardens for instance and have a look and see whats in there !
french doors will add more value to your property as they are the in thing right now but will depend on your own preferance
If the so-called French doors are simply big single panes of glass with fake criss cross PVC slats over them, then I would go for the sliding patio doors. French doors are far classier, but if you're going to get French doors they should have real individual panes of glass, or at least look like they do (for example, the ones with wooden criss-crosses).
Patio doors are soooo last century. French doors NEVER loose their chic and have always been popular among house buyers.
Hi,
I have just replaced my patio doors and have put in french doors with a sliding middle section so if we have both doors open we can move the bar in the middle to the side.xx
Patio doors are 20th centuary. French doors are timeless
As far as resale value goes, people love french doors! They're a much more classy look than the old standard sliding glass doors, especially if you have a great view from them. Check out the various styles, I'm sure you will find something that will go with the style of your house.
French doors are the future. Patio doors are so last year. Defo french alot nicer and modern.xx
The main problem is security! Patio doors can under certain circumstances be easily lifted out of their frame very quickly and quietly by burgulars. French doors can be vulnerable at the lock. I prefer french doors as you have the full width of the opening and the cill is much lower than on patio doors. just ensure that the lock is at least 5 lever and that additional bolts are added to both doors it should then be as secure as you need.
french doors if u have the space
Hi

Replace using UPVC french doors for better security and for resale value. Patio sliders are easy for theives to lift out with a garden spade.

French doors lock better, and are far easier to keep in adjusted. In my work as a locksmith, I found sliders to be frustrating - They hop the track, rollers break, and burglars love them.

If it were mine, I would prefer French doors.
