If the spots are sunken the cause MIGHT be anthracnose. Or
COULD be brown, moist spots caused be either bacteria or fungi. As with the above, destroy each leaf infected and try Benalte and keep on the dry side.
If Dustoff is right about the anthracnose, the brown spots will have a darker color all the way around the edge . ( btw, is Benlate/Benomyl still legal?) If the spots are ~ 1/16" & sunken, it's likely Three-lined Plant Bug. They're just coming out now . Could also be leafhoppers. If it's those you'll need an insect repellent such as Hot Pepper Wax , or Garlic Barrier. Contact insecticides won't work, because they aren't there long, & systemics only work if they eat the plant , which you are trying to prevent. The hot pepper wax also seems to prevent fungus infection, probably because it seals the leaf surface from fungus. The only other thing I can think of is Tobacco Mosaic Virus. Did any smokers handle the plants, or blow smoke near them? Don't know if that affects them . BTW, which "canary vine " do you have? One of the red morning glory relatives, or the yellow nasturtium relative ?
