Can you eat garden snails,(shell on its back) If so, how?

Question:You know the ones. They are found in gardens all over
the UK.

Answers:
there is no reason you can't eat snails found in the UK. the only real difference between them and the ones gathered for consumption in french cuisine is the size. whilst on survival course we had to eat some cooked in a billy can with some wild garlic bulbs they were a little chewy but didn't really taste much apart from the garlic. and no you don't need to purge them that's worms that need purging unless you want to crunch you way through all the mud passing through it's body

P.S. you can also eat slugs in the same way

ewww i most certainly hope not!
not the little ones.....?
the french snails yes
Ugh Don't ,they are not the escargots of the French.
Yes you can.

Before you cook them, you’ll need to purge your snails to remove any grit inside them. A simple technique is to put them in the bottom of a bucket, covered with a breathable material - such as a pair of tights. Feed them with oats and a shallow saucer of water (both changed daily) for 5 days.

I'm not sure but my 18month old baby ate one on Sunday in seconds didn't even get a chance to whip it out his mouth!

i have no idea why i am answering this question when its nauseating me, with my morning sickness and all. but hey its very interesting !
i dont know if you can eat all or some varieties. some snails have toxins that prevent it from being eaten by the birds etc. be sure to stay away from them.
do some reserch on the net to find out which snails could be safe to eat.
how to cook them ? i know that ! :) i used to watch our gardener cook snails.(not garden variety. sea snails)
he would clean them generally to get rid of any dirt on their shell, and put them in boiling water. they make a slight whistling sound. poor things :(
when they are cooked they become hard and he takes them out of water and breaks of the shells and adds them to gravy, stew, whatever needs to cook.
they are a very good source of calcium and iron. :)
collect as many as you can eat, place them in a pan with white wine, butter, garlic, and chillies cook until soft. If you wish to be ill eat with fresh french bread otherwise throw them in the bin. Please do the latter.
