Annoying Mockingbird!?
Question:I live in No. CA, and we have a northern mockingbird that wakes us up every night during the summer. I understand it is a male mockingbird looking for a mate (based on research). I just need to know how to deter it from coming back to the tree by my bedroom window every night! Any advice I can find basically says "get used to it" or "enjoy the beautiful song". Well, that would be great if it wasn't between 1am and 5am every morning when I'm trying to sleep!
I greatly appreciate any experience/advice you may have. I of course do not want to harm the bird.
Answers:
Maybe a plastic owl that looks real.
i think fake owl statues deter unwanted birds.
i am not sure but maybe you can call the wildlife board and ask for some suggestions? or fish and game whatever it is called i dont remember...
Get yourself one of those CO2 powered horn that are really loud and blast it out the window evertime it wakes you up, he'll find a different place to roost.
I'm in Oklahoma and we had an article in the newspaper about a mockingbird that continues to attack a mail carrier in one neighborhood. The article was saying that there wasn't much that could be done about it because it is a protected species. So unfortunately, you might just have to live with it. Sorry.
The time of day makes this behavior strange-- see if any naturalist folks around you can help-- parks here have bird volenteers-- hope they can help.
good luck
Oh my goodness. I am in No. CA as well and we have the same exact problem. This mockingbird has been "singing" since March. He is so loud and NEVER shuts up. Never! All night long, all day long. We can't even sleep with the windows open because he is so very loud, like, Imax loud. I can even hear him through our double paned glass windows. How can a bird make so much noise for SO long?? Doesn't he need to eat and sleep??
Good luck to you, and to me as well.
