ANNOYING small files in the garden.?


Question:I live in ohio and we have not had much rain this season. with it being so dry there are not very many misquitoes (sp?) however, there are a few new ones that we dont see often and are annoying and they bite. repellents do not work. you are soon chased in the house. the first bug is in the garden veggies or strawberries. these tiny baby flies are bigger then a nat and smaller then your average house fly. what are they? these flies only seen to come out at night and they are in swarms in the garden. it is nasty, we are not to sure about eatting strawberries since this has happen this but would like to protect our veggies. i put bug stuff on all of it and it seems to keep them away for a few days but it i water, poop garden bug repellent GONE. then we have these no seeums(sp?) what the heck are they? there bute realllly hurts. they make you come i n doors very fast. My daughter got bitten by something that made her arm swell double it size and it got infected. anyone have ans

Answers:
Sounds like fruit flies to me. Look for black stripes on their bodies. Probably one of the best ways to cut down on their population is with a trap.
Make a funnel out of notebook paper or very thin cardboard and put it in a jar with a little cidar-vinegar in it.
Put 2 or three of those around your garden and you should notice a huge difference. You may want to empty them once in a while if they get a lot in them, they'll start to stink.
