Should I introduce worms into my garden?
Question:I did not spot that many worms in my garden and have read that they are good for your soil. I was wondering if it is worth it to add worms to my garden? If so, can I use worms that you buy at a bait shop or send away for some in the mail?
Answers:
They are probably already there. With robins around they do not pay to advertise. Worms exist in fertile soil. Start a compost pile and as it matures, till it into the soil. You will soon be going fishing with nice fat earthworms
As long as you are an organic gardener worms are your friends. They keep your soil loose and aerated, eat decaying material and add their own guano as fertilizer. A lot of pesticides and herbicides will kill your worms, though, so adding them under those conditions may not do you much good.
Yes, you can use bait shop worms.
if you add worms to your garden , you will be adding more problems. Especially when the mole family get to hear about all the free food you are supplying. This is the moles main food sources
I actually just caught a television program where this guy started an organic plant food company using bait worms. He basically puts the worms in the dirt, then waits a while and bottles up the poop. Check it out..
