Damp treatment...?
Question:We have quite a severe case of damp in a bedroom of our house - does anyone know how this would be treated and if we would need to vacate the house while this happens?
Answers:
If it upstairs - it is quite dodgy. You need to get a plumber in - i think the problem is the pipes are broken, something like that
depends on what is casuing the damp, if it is coming up from the groun you can have a resin injected into the house and that should stop it, you wouldn't need to vacate
if it's from a laekign window or soemthing you'd need to dry it out (for a few days as it is water in between the walls) adn reseal wht ewindows, again, don't need to vacate
if it's coming in from outside, you need to stop the water running down your external walls, or possibly apply a plymer sealant to the outside wall - again you don't need to vacate
any other casues I don't know, sorry!
If the bedroom is upstairs it can't be rising damp.
If it's black spores on the walls it's probably condensation, and needs ventilation. If it's damp walls it could be a roof problem,or a leaking gutter or downpipe.
Make sure that the walls or ceilings arent still getting damp for some reason if they are dry and you have only got a damp stain you will need to wipe the surface down with a fungicidal spray which can be brought from amy good decorating shop.
once dry you will need to paint over it with a product called zinsser BIN primer sealer stain killer.
946ml will be plenty to do the size of 2 doors. and you will need to keep stiring it every 10 mins. you can buy this from any good decorating shop to or from b&q and you can do all this yourself just make sure the room is vented while using.
TReated by stopping entry of water
simple idea go up into loft when it is raining is water getting in
First you must find out were the damp is coming from ,it could be the roof , guttering ,window .
