Is Rent A Center a good place to purchase furniture or Not?

Question:Well, me and my bf have been living in our apartment for a while and we are ready to start getting furniture. The reason we havent done anything before, is because the job that we work at didnt give us enough money to actually save aside for furniture.

Now that we have got a raise sorta, we will be able to get some stuff in the apartment now.

Would you recommend renting to own or saving and paying in full? What would you do in my situation?

Answers:
You are getting many good answers that tell you NO. Listen to them.
You can find some great furniture at estate sales, auctions, grage sales, newspaper ads, church sales, and can buy new from stores. If you look for new stuff tell the store that you need credit and how can they help you get it established. Be prepared when you go shopping as tohow much a month you can afford to spend. Don't exceed that figure. They should be able to help. Just remember to pay the bills on time every month and you will establish a good credit rating.

You will pay 2 to 3 times the actual price if you go through rent a center.

Save and pay cash

Or watch for some estate auctions or sales. sometimes you can get some good stuff really cheap.
NO NO NO! Don't use the rent a center option yes you can get it now but you end up paying 3 time as much as you would have paid if you save a bout it. And if you miss 1 payment for any reason they wilkl come take your stuff now matter how long you have been paying on it.
Do NOT go to rent-a-center. They are absolutely horrible!! Renting to own is a lot easier than paying in full in some ways, but you have to go somewhere good. Rent-a-Center definately isn't good. Go to this link: http://www.complaints.com/directory/2004...
It's a letter written by an unhappy Rent-A-Center customer. I only gave you one example, but if you do a google search you'll end up with many more.
Rent a center can be good or it can be a rip off. If you pay off you're furniture within 90 days you're going to be paying pretty close to retail price. Pretty much what you would pay anywhere else. But the catch is that most people don't pay it off within 90 days.

After 90 days the price nearly doubles and you're going to paying upwards of 50% interest on that item.

:(i used to work there ):
This is by far the most expensive way to buy average or worse quality furniture and appliances. You are much better of buying at a store where it is on sale, putting it on a credit card and paying interest for a while than the high prices and high interest at RAC.
Some furniture stores offer a store card and each month they will have an offer of if you buy something for a certain amount you will get a set number of months with no interest, around certain holidays (July 4 should be one of them) they usually offer more time without interest and have alot of sales. Try to get approved for a card at one of these places, figure out how much you can afford each month and buy something that you will be able to pay off in that amount of time. If you aren't able to pay it off by the end of the no interest period then make sure you have another card to transfer it to because you will get charged all the back interest if it isn't paid off by a certain date.
Renting to own is going to end up screwing you in the long run. Either pay in full for new furniture or look for some cheap used furniture (or even sign up for your local freecycle group). Even look through the classifieds in your local paper for furniture. Or ask friends and family (I just moved in with my boyfriend and my brother ended up getting my entire bedroom set as well as a lazy boy - he would have gotten more but his apartment is tiny).
I would buy from a furniture warehouse, rent centers have sky high interest on unpaid balances, which is 28% here(in fine print mind you!) ... hope you find what you are looking for =)
Definitely look elsewhere! The interest you pay on the rental would buy your furniture again. It sounds appealing until you actually run the numbers.

I would recommend either saving and paying in full, or finding a good deal with low interest terms or deferred interest.

Either way, read the fine print!
I used to work for Rent-A-Center after I graduated from college. The rental fees are more than the actual payment. They take advantage of people's vulnerability to not be able to get credit. Plus if you are late on your payment, They will harrass you until you make a payment like you are some low-life. Its not worth it. Some furniture places offer special payment deals. (I.E. 6 months same as cash). Good luck!
I want furniture, but damn, Rent A Center gets no love shorty.. F U C K Rent A Center!!!!
when they are getting rid of some modols an there still in good shape you can get a good buy but your better at garage sales an moving sales
My son bought a computer from there. Paid $60 a month for I don't know how long. Then he lost his job and returned it to them. I decided to retrieve it for him, since he only had 3 more payments to make. I made 3 payments, and there were still 2 owing. So I went in to pay it off in full, which amounted to $90. The man did everything he could to talk me into only making the regular $60 payment. I asked how much the final payment would be next month. $90. Would anybody in their right mind actually buy, or maybe I should say try to buy anything from such a place?
