How do you know when the first truss has set in tomatoes {what does this actually mean}?
Question:
Answers:
If you've seen vine tomatoes in the supermarket that is a truss. A bit like a bunch of grapes. When you grow tomatoes you will see tiny green tomato trusses with yellow flowers and then the undeveloped fruit. When you see the tiny tomatoes that is a truss. You usually only need so many trusses on each plant otherwise they will all be weak and small and probably won't ripen. So you pinch out the side shoots, and then when you have the right number of trusses you pinch out the growing point at the top.
Tomatos should only have one main Stem =Truss.Pinch out side shoots do not let it bush, because the plant will end up with less fruit.
a truss is the spray of flowers.you will know when the truss has set because the the tiny tomatoes will start to swell and grow.very often the first truss does not set and the tomatoes will not grow.it is usualy because the weather may still be too cold and the plant is not releasing pollen.
