Homes flooded by torrential rain / This is England , Areas should be protected?
Question:I find this funny that this happens in the uk ,
We are not a poor country and we know we get lots of rain from time to time so why dont the Towns and villages in the areas that this happens build a good defence , Something 10x what we get now and this would not happen !
Its just comman sence
Answers:
It is all down to cost, who is going to pay to for it all to be done.
its not like yorkshire doesnt get a lot of rain.cant they build a resevoir or something, so when the hosepipe ban starts there will be a little bit of extra water
The rain has to go somewhere - building flood defences generally shifts the problem elsewhere. It is a complicated issue. We have too many hard surfaces impermeable to rain which causes most of the flooding. Homes should not be built in areas below the 1:100 year flood line and that's that !
for decades now building companies have been building on reclaimed and low lying land. and stupid people have been playing into their hands and making them rich buying them. How many building company bosses do you know living in these areas that are at risk of flooding because the house was built on what was swamp land before they drained it to build on
Mate it is a wicked country - with an abundant amount of opportunities to have a fantastic life - look on the bright side and forget about small things, like this. It is part and parcel of life - now enjoy ya life. Thats my opinion.
if house were not built on flood plains and next to cute streams they would not flood.
it is the concrete jungle that allows the rain to run off so fast into the drains and rivers.
Farmers also put in field drainage to boost crops yeilds as they struggle to make a living.
The last we need are defenses, treat the cause not the effect.
There will always be an England and there always be floods but thecouncils would rather spend money on other projects than to spend it on defences to save the country.
