How can we keep the grass out of the gardenbeds?
Question:we have just bought a house and it has no garden beds. we are putting some in but is there anything we can spray to mark out a boundary to stop the grass from growing into them?
Answers:
Anything you would spray to kill the grass would also kill the garden. It would also be toxic to humans and other animals. Use a hoe, please. You could also put in embedded edging around garden below the level of the grass roots.
probly need to rent a turf remover i got the same probvlem but im going to do box gardening with gravel around all the boxes, tired of the weeding good luck. oh and spraying roundup on it wont get rid of all the seeds in your dirt youll just get more weeds growing when you water you garden
Round up. It takes about 24 hours for ALL the grass sprayed to die. Don't use it on the dirt you want to grow plants in. The easiest way is to rotor till the grass into the ground
I use garden bricks to shore up my garden, and then fill in a bit above the normal soil level with extra potting mix behind the little brick wall.
no spray needed
First use a roto-tiller to break up the grass where you want to put the beds. Actually, first call the utility companies and have them mark out where any underground wires, cables, or pipes are so you don't cut them up. Once you've broken the ground up, you can put down landscape cloth to stop weeds and grass from growing up from below. Use some type of edging around your garden beds. Something that extends at least 4 inches underground. Landscape timbers work well for this, you can stack them and have raised garden beds which makes it very hard for grass to grow in there. You can also fill them with potting soil or top soil to get some really nice gardens with good drainage.
