Getting Paint out of a Sink?
Question:My roommates recently came and painted their room in the downstairs basement, little did I know, they washed up their mess in the sink and let it dry. It was a latex paint. I have tried paint thinner but I am worried about the drain. The one side of the sink is still really bad. Is there anything besides paint thinner that will clean it up(because of the smell)? Could I pour paint thinner down the drain to ensure no clogs? If not, what could be done besides calling in a professional?
Answers:
Putting paint thinner or gasoline down a drain is dangerous as well as against Federal law.
If you have latex paint on your sink go to a paint store and pick up a product called "Goof Off". You can put some on a rag and take off the paint. It smells but the smell goes away quickly. I used it to take paint off my hardwood floors when these two morons I hired to paint the ceiling splattered paint on the floor.
I konw gasoline also gets rid of paint really well. Yes, I know a real convenient answer when you might as well cut off your arm for a gallon but it would help cleaning it out of the sink. As far as in your pipes, if your water still runs through it right now, then it should have dried and you might be ok without it.
Depends on what kind of sink & what kind of paint. Linseed oil won't hurt sink serfice & will make your sink shine if its stainless steel.
