Is it ok to dispose my old microwave in my wheelie bin?
Question:or does it have to be taken to a tip?
Answers:
Yes. Mine broke and I phoned my local council about it's disposal. I was told that it was ok to put it out in the bin that holds everyday non recyclable rubbish.
check with your local recycle plant
You are not really supposed to dispose of such items in the bin, take it to your local skip. (It kinda fun actually, I threw out a load of old stuff recently, I quite enjoyed throwing it over the barriers into the big skips!).
It should be taken to a civic amenity site where it would be placed in the correct bin... My local council will collect this sort of item on a special collection, You phone them up and they give you the day to leave it outside your property.. The system works quite well.. No way do you put it out with normal rubbish for landfill.
Ideally it should be taken to a recycling point. Microwave ovens are mostly metal. As well as that the bin wagons themselves can be damaged by large metallic objects.
Ring your local authority refuse department and check, some (like mine) will collect it free of charge.
no way phone local recycle plant
Take it to your local recycling centre.
