Defosting a upright freezer?

Question:i have a prob. i have a upright freezer and this morning when i woke up there was melted ice cream on the floor and everthing is tawing out the door was cracked open a little and i want to know if my freezer is going bad now my freezer don't seem to want to work now the power lite is on but it don't seem to be work now there is a buck of ice build up now sould i defrost it and see what happens or does anyone have any ideas what i should do it a fridgaire model #ffu14c3awo

You said it yourself...the door was open. 99.9% that was the problem. Freezers are great at what they do, but they weren't made to freeze a whole room. Just defrost it put everything back in it and if the stuff isn't frozen by tomorrow morning, then you have a problem.
