Can i install a 15' round pool on my grass as it is if i put a gorilla floor pad under it?

Question:is it absolutely necessary to level out and remove the grass, etc... even if i add the gorilla pad...the ad says it protects from everything from grass to sharp rocks...so what's the point of the sod removal?
